Blankets for our Friends at Home Did you know that the children of Arden had a little secret during Advent this year? I alluded to it sometimes during the Children's Moment, a sort of special project they were participating in. While the adult crowd was learning about and reflecting on the Advent themes of Hope, Peace, Joy, and Love, our youngest Sunday School class was exploring how they could put into practice these very themes. With the guidance of their very capable Sunday School volunteers, the children spent some time thinking about what it means to share these ideas with those who may not be feeling "merry and bright" during the Holidays. Over a period of four weeks, and then several hours at home, the children of Arden undertook the project of creating handmade cards and lap blankets for our friends at Arden who cannot make it to worship on a regular basis. It was truly miraculous to see the dedication of this group of young people as they each "adopted" a friend at home, created a Christmas Card, and hand tied a soft and warm fleece blanket to gift to someone that most of them had never met. The enthusiasm to "get the job done" was thrilling to watch, as was the realization that their small hands were being used to bring the message of Advent to someone who might need to be reminded of it. Once the blankets were complete, they were blessed, gift wrapped, and handed over to our Elders to deliver on their weekly visits. Thank you to all the children, Sunday School volunteers, and Elders who helped to make this project so meaningful to all involved. You are all truly inspiring.
Blessings,
Laura Pierson Minister of Education and Nurture
